Arrogance on Display

As with any dedicated Red Sox fan I detest the hated Yankees on a very fundamental level.  At the same time there’s always been some grudging respect because in most cases they play the game the right way.  I’ve had nightmares about Jeter and Mariano Rivera tormenting the Sox.

Yesterday had to be one of the saddest day’s in that proud franchise’s history when they were forced to allow A-Roid back on the field and provide a soapbox for his self-serving denial of the obvious.  He’s a cheater and has been cheating the fans of the game for most of his career.

Baseball is probably the one sport where individual statistics count more than anything even though it is a team sport.  It’s the one sport where we can look back decades and compare Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio and the Babe to modern counterparts.  It connects generations of fans and despite the popularity of football, baseball is intertwined with the fabric of American life.  Bud Selig allowed the sport to become a joke by riding the coattails of the roided up homerun contest between Sosa and McGuire to help revive the game after the last big players strike.  He’s still paying for it with buffoons like Barry Bonds and now the poster child for the era – A-Roid

I know tens of millions of dollars are on the line but this guy just doesn’t get it.  No one wanted to see him back on the field – he’s an embarrassment to the sport and most of all to himself.  He ….just….doesn’t….get….it.  Hubris incarnate.
