Robins in the Snow

Robins in the Back Yard!
My superb boss invalided himself out of our planned First Friday celebration but I rangered on and went to Brew City without him.  Sometimes you just have to take one for the team.  I was joined by one of the great planners that we work with and we spent a fantastic hour commiserating about some of the “parameters” we are blessed with.

I made my way home through a fairly vigorous snow shower which did nothing to improve my general outlook.  That all changed when I got home to be greeted by an entire flock of robins, the first I’ve seen this year and supposedly bona fide evidence spring is about to arrive.  Testament to my feelings about this winter was the almost childlike glee I experienced upon seeing them.  I stole the last of my wife canary food and put that in the bird feeder and then tore up a couple pieces of bread and spread that around.  There ended up being over twenty of the welcome avian diviners in the back yard.

Buddy was less than pleased by the donation of one of his favorite snacks to creatures he routinely chases out of the yard.  The first time he got outside he made a bee line for the bread. I’m afraid he’s going to start thinking his name is “God Damn It Buddy!”.

I actually had to make two trips to Zorbas since it was packed on the first attempt.  I was able to secure my normal Friday perch and the fabulous ladies of Zorbas immediately took me under the wing.  One of the floor waitresses (also one of the cutest) came over and relayed my order to the bartender even though I was outside of her area of responsibility.  My favorite bar tender was off duty and enjoying a “busman’s holiday” at the bar.   I really felt at home and these Friday nights have become a necessary part of my routine, not to mention unworldly pizza, to boot.
The forecast calls for 8-10 inches of snow on Monday night.  I hope the robins hang around.
