Humor Me!

Due to the fairly “inclement” weather over the past week I’ve been driving my absent wife’s 4-wheel drive car into work every day.  Instead of listening to my normal sports talk radio during the commute I’ve used the satellite radio to listen to Blue Collar Radio which plays highlights of stand up comedy along with commercials for sexual aides, Viagra, and Christian Mingle.com (????).

Since it’s been fairly depressing around the vacant homestead (sorry Buddy) I’ve noted the medicinal effect of laughter.   Since so many flatlanders seem to have forgotten how to drive in snow the commutes have been about 50 per cent longer this week but I’ve been laughing my butt off in the car.  I’m sure that’s lead to some wild speculation in nearby cars.

Humor is an indispensable part of life.  You have to be able to find amusement in everyday life or what’s the point. I know I was pissed off at the world on Saturday when I was clearing the snow dunes from the driveway.  I paused once (actually more than once) to take a breath and glanced over at a nearby snow mound.  A few seconds later Buddy’s head poked out of the mound where he had burrowed into unnoticed by me. This was so funny that I had to stop and just laugh out loud.  Clearing the snow didn’t seem so onerous afterwards.

Find some time to laugh today (and every day) and you’ll be amazed what a difference it can make.  Cultivate the ability to laugh at yourself – the world is full of jerks who take themselves too seriously – don’t be one of them.  When I think of the best times I’ve ever had all of them involved laughter at some point.

I’ve been keeping the tradition of date night active in my wife’s absence because it gives me a reason to go to the movies (like I needed a reason).  There was no way I was going to miss the epically titled action flick – Parker.  Jason Statham scowls his way through another movie – kicking as and taking names.

This should have been enough but the filmmakers decided Jennifer Lopez needed to be in the movie in what should have been a small part.  I’m guessing she was not content with just a small part because her role is awkwardly expanded to include more of her than was necessary.  The movie’s pace comes to a screeching halt whenever she appears on screen.  Statham’s proven he can carry an entire action movie.  They should have let him.
