New York State of Mind

Panamanians Loose in NYC
I am incredibly proud of my Favorite Panamanian today. She escorted her brother and his wife all the way to New York City and back yesterday by herself. She’s never done anything like that and always arranged for someone to come along to help. I was decisively engaged with the planned move of the company in a couple weeks so I was unavailable. She handled everything, from the drive down to New Haven, the train into the city, and a tour bus excursion all on her own. I could tell when she returned home that she was more than a little proud of herself. Life is all about conquering your fears.

Central Park Wanderings

Apparently the day long shopping marathon on Tuesday did nothing to assuage the Panamanian women’s need to shop. They jumped off the tour bus at the original Macy’s and inflicted yet more pain on my long suffering brother in law. They also spent some time roaming Central Park. When they returned late last night everyone seemed very happy, even my brother in law, and my wife stood a little taller.

A Great Day
I spent the day after work back up on my less than favorite hill where I finished the third terrace! I’d stopped by Home Depot on my way home and loaded up on garden dirt but I’ll need some more today to finish it off. My technique of throwing dirt further and further up the hill from my earliest excavations hadn’t left enough to completely fill the third garden. Now it will be up to my wife to get some green into the ground before the first frost descends. The next door neighbor came over to admire the remodeled hill and tried to coax me into a similar project on their back yard hill next spring – I’ve got the winter to figure out how to get out of that.
Walls Are Done!!!
Preparations are awash at the house today in anticipation of today’s arrival of the California contingent. The Panamanians are taking a break from touring in order to make sure everything is ready to receive the First Blog Reader and her supporting adults. They’re flying in for the weekend because my daughter is working out of the home office in New York City next week. My wife got up with me this morning and started cooking. I’ve been dispatched to Toys R’ Us to pick up a keyboard, drum, and balls – these are needed to make sure our granddaughter will have appropriate leisure activities. That is if her grandparents ever put her down.

Since I was alone last night while the Panamanians Big Appled I snuck out for a movie. The only thing playing after I finished my hill ministrations was Masterminds. This should have been a whole lot funnier than it turned out to be. It boasts a great cast of comedic actors who have all done better work than here. Galifianakis is back in the “weird zone” that he thrived in during the Hangover movies and he’s the only one that generates any actual laughs. The plot is based on a real life armored car company heist that scored over 17 million dollars. The title comes from the fact all the conspirators were a little shortchanged in the DNA department, not exactly a deep gene pool. The movie seemed over long and the supporting characters which should have been a strength – weren’t.
