Honoring the Sacrifice and A Daughter Sighting

Today is the 6th of June and the 70th anniversary of one of the landmark events of the 20th century – the D-Day landings in France and should not pass without adequate recognition.  Our president finally realized this is an important day for Americans, not to mention Western Civilization.  I was born eleven years after the Normandy landings and grew up surrounded by the justly christened Greatest Generation who waded through the fire at Gold, Sword, Juno, Utah, and Omaha Beaches; especially Omaha.  I didn’t appropriately realize at the time just how lucky I was to know these people forged in the crucible of World War 2.
It’s telling that the D-Day veterans are mostly gone now and the survivors are generally in their 90’s.  It’s important for my generation to pass on the importance of the sacrifice bled into those French beaches so long ago.  In a world more interested in the latest pop culture craze it’s imperative to look back at the immense debt we all owe to those heroes.   Take a moment today to turn your eyes towards those channel beaches and say thank you – you owe more than you will ever truly appreciate.
No greater evidence is the French are even willing to admit this is an important day and honor someone other than themselves.
She's Back!! Picking up the Daughter at Train Station
Speaking of honor, my daughter will be unable to come up for Father’s Day next weekend so she returned last night just a few days after leaving.  I feel honored that she’s chosen to spend some time with a corny, tornado noting father.  Connecticut did try to throw a major hurdle at our return trip choosing to close all but one lane on Interstate 84 just as the rush hour was winding down.  This led to a massive back up which we were heading straight into.  Connecticut however failed to account for my daughter who drew her faithful I-Phone out and navigated us through a series of very picturesque back roads to a point just beyond the construction zone.  I was completely and utterly impressed and issued a figurative finger at Connecticut as we snuck back across the border.

Father Daughter Hang Time - A Movie Was Involved
It should also be reported that my “wing man” AKA son in law truly represented at his Tuesday birthday bash, as was only appropriate.  Media reports are leaking out now to chronicle his epic time. The following are all statements he admitted to making at the height of the celebration:  "I'm so strong, I can do everything!" "This is when the f*** happens!" "I'm at full velocity!”.  Small wonder he fits in so well with our crowd. See further photographic evidence of the night below.
