Beard’s Final Test

Buddy’s digestive prowess returned today so I’ve definitely turned the corner on Monday.  The trees around the house have just about peaked in color which means in a week or so we’ll be back to the depressing bare branches until May.  While this marks the beginning of the end of my favorite time of year we have the unexpected pleasure of still watching the Red Sox play as one of the last two teams standing.

This team has brought back a lot of memories of the 1967 team which also went from worst to first in one season.  That team was a defining summer for any New England kid at the time where baseball and more importantly the Sox achieved almost divine status.
When the Sox finally returned to the World Series in 2004 I remember telling both of my kids to enjoy it because it was a rare treat.  Of course the Sox, thankfully, have gone on to make a complete liar out of me over the past decade.  My daughter was a student at BU living only a couple of blocks from Fenway in 2004 as another generation fell in love with the team.  This 2013 team especially (although nothing will ever supplant the 2004 version) seems to be riding destiny.  There was even a rainbow yesterday which ended at Fenway Park – that’s got to mean something.
Yesterday's Double Rainbow at Fenway
The Sox will continue their way through MLB’s menagerie tonight having disposed of Rays, Tigers and now face the Cardinals, seemingly the most docile of prey.  They look like a stern test though with a lot of young pitching.  They have yet to face the power of the beards though!
It's Got to Mean Good Things!
Last night was date night and I had some ground to make up after last week’s Machete debacle so I turned to some old friends.  The wife and I went to see Escape Plan starring Stallone and Schwarzenegger.  This is another of their combined attempts to recapture their 1980’s glory days even as they pass into senior citizenry.  They both can still carry a movie and this was watchable.
They both end up incarcerated in a sadistic private prison and their geritol fueled angst is palpable.   Stallone has obviously done a whole lot of steroids and can barely walk in a straight line, but then again, did he ever?  This was a pleasant journey down memory lane to the 1980s and the wife approved (I think it was the lack of decapitations).

Go Sox!!!!
Playoff Beard - Day 24 - The Power of the Beard Compels You!!!
