Mighty Fallen

FBR Rocking Last Week

I cannot be hypocritical and say Alex Cora did not deserve to be ousted as Red Sox manager based on his involvement in sign stealing. It always pissed me off when the Yankees through the YES network did it routinely and nothing ever happened (thank you Joe Torre for that). Despite his disastrous handling of spring training last year I really liked the vibe Cora brought to the Sox but his departure was forgone when the facts of his time with Astros came out. I’m sure the haters will come out in force talking about the 2018 championship but MLB had people in the video rooms during the World Series so the Dodgers were not a victim of this and the Yankees were beaten at Yankee Stadium (that just does not get old.)
Thanks for 2018
Wingman continues on his tour, now in the southeast. I received this picture of the FBR at the concert last week – she’s definitely inherited some rock star genes. The tour also gave Wingman a chance to hang out with his dad in Washington. I saw this picture and it brought back a lot of memories since I used to run along that trail on the National Mall when I was assigned to the Pentagon.
Wingman and Dad in DC
I was out on dateless date night last evening to see what the buzz was all about on 1917. The buzz is real and well earned. A fascinating look at a small unit action from the trenches of World War 1. Two British lads are given a mission to sneak across no-man’s land to warn another unit about an impending disaster. This is one of the movies you leave wondering how the hell they did it. The movie is basically one long shot of continuous action with only one pause during a period of unconsciousness. The camera moves around the two guys as they travel and encounter a variety of challenges and there never seems to be a break. They used two relatively unknown actors for the lead roles but some distinguished actors show up throughout the movie in very small parts, a very cool technique. The film is also an eloquent comment on the brutality of war along with glimpses of humanity, courage, pride, and nobility. It’s a movie that will stay with you for a long time and not just because you’re still trying to figure out how they did it.
