Good Guy Win

The Honeree
Friday exceeded its own lofty standards yesterday with an evening spent honoring one of the nicest people on the face of the earth. My brother in law has established a highly respected reputation in the New England sports scene first for his work as the Providence Journal sports editor and for the last few years running Comcast New England Sports web site.
With His Wife - My Sister
He’s always eschewed publicity for himself and mentored many of the current “on air” sports personalities. His love of spurts was formed early in life and last night he was honored by his hometown when he was inducted into the Cranston Rhode Island Hall of Fame. Several of those renowned personalities showed up to honor him. He’s always been content to work behind the scenes while others garnered the attention so it was so nice to finally see him realize how much everybody thought of him.
My Favorite Panamanian's Last East Coast Night
The Keene Friend came down and we all journeyed to Rhode Island together where we joined my brother in law’s family. My brother in law was the last of five people being inducted and they certainly saved the best for last. Fortunately they served beer and our table quickly garnered a well-earned reputation for bar patronage. The people introducing the inductees were supposed to be quick with their speech but apparently the second guy never got the message. He spoke for nearly twenty minutes of what was more a stream of consciousness than any coherent thoughts. I’m still mystified as to what the guy he was supposedly introducing did to earn the hall of fame recognition. The beer really helped get us through this.

Namesake Nephew and Sister
Eventually and blessedly we finally arrived at my brother in law’s induction. He was introduced by a good friend who gave a very moving introduction. My brother in law had the entire room under his sway when he began speaking. He’s a great writer and his words captivated the crowd. He was simultaneously humble, generous, and insightful. If you’re truly fortunate you’ll hear a public speaker perfectly portray his genuineness and quality. My brother in law delivered that last night and we who were lucky enough to be there were the true winners.
By Far The Best Speech of the Night

Okay - So Our Table was a Little More Well Served than Some Others
