German Weather and The Hot Stove

I’ve felt like I’ve been back in Germany with the weather over the last few days.  One of the enduring memories from my time there (well, that and the exotic English ladies) was the depressing cloud covered weather of persistent drizzle.  Small wonder they’re always angry (no wait, that’s the French).
Rumor Has It There's a Sun Up There Somewhere
Yesterday was another German day but it was significantly brightened by a lunch date with the wife who ventured into Worcester for a doctor’s appointment.  She reported yet another battle of wills with her GPS system.  It’s nice that she can finally laugh about it.
MEF and Son In NYC Channeling Some Zebra Gear
Since it was Friday we decided to go to Zorba’s for dinner (huge surprise there).  There will be no photo this week as my wife successfully plied me with alcohol to dodge the weekly Zorba photo.  The pizza was the routinely breathtaking we’ve come to expect.  It was a little sadder since we didn’t have all the kids that surrounded us last week.  We did receive an update from NYC where the son and MEF have linked up with our daughter for the weekend.

It’s been a big week in Hot Stove baseball and Red Sox news.  The poster boy for the pink hats, Jacoby Ellsbury, departed for the hated Yankees and it didn’t bother me a whole lot. The ladies will have to find another player to swoon about.  His pretty boy mentality won’t be missed and lets see how durable he is now that he has his long term contract.  His first hangnail will land him on the disabled list for a couple weeks.  It would bother me more if the Yankees hadn’t lost Robinson Cano who scares me a whole lot more than Ellsbury ever will.

I like that the Sox aren’t venturing back into the big contract frenzy that created such a bad situation last year.  They brought back Mike Napoli, he of the beard brigade, massive homeruns, and strikeouts.  The Sox seem to be taking the same measured approach of bringing in quality veterans and filling holes by developing their young players.  There’s some attendant risk with that approach but I’ll bet anyone a couple of beers that by mid-July both Ellsbury and Beltran will be on the disabled list.
Welcome Back Big Guy!
I woke up this morning to the return of the sun which seems to have banished the German weather.  The Germans didn’t retreat without dropping a couple inches of ice and snow though. I’d better finish this up because we’re having a Christmas (yes Christmas not holiday) Party tonight and the wife is hovering with her ever ready Honey Do list.
