Thursday Blues

I should be better prepared to deal with the aftermath of spending extended time with my Favorite Son but it just doesn’t get any easier. I found my mind constantly wandering back to the times we had at his beach cottage over the past few days and wishing I was still there. Life, though, has other plans and hopefully they can fully enjoy the rest of their family vacation with one less set of grandparents to host. Then there’s the whole work thing that I’m supposed to be doing. I’ve found it easy to do in a beach location, a la Las Lajas, but the addition of family, and, of course, granddaughters, is an entirely different story. I’m putting in a week’s worth of effort over the final two days of this week.

FBR, Mini-Hulkster
The FBR was back on the air waves this morning and I could have sworn she was a little relieved to see that her cousins no longer had unfettered access to her grandparents. A little of the green-eyed monster, as my mother used to say. The FBR showed up to this morning’s call with a Hulk mask. I made believe I couldn’t recognize who was calling which led to some FBR giggling, giving her away completely. She received the mask along with a Thor mask as part of a weekend party. We then had a detailed discussion on just who the god of thunder was. She was relieved to find out that he is considered a good guy.

My Descent Started So Well
My Favorite Panamanian and my recovery are not all spiritual either. We’re both dealing with some physical ailments obtained during our beach stay. Predictably, my wife’s relate to her trying to do much while mine definitely falls into the “dumbass” category (cue comment from Cantankerous Friend). My wife always overdoes it when it comes to granddaughters. I caution her but she just can’t help herself. She and the PanaGal house guest had planned on driving up to the Maine Musquetera’s house today but my wife woke up physically exhausted and they had to cancel the trip.

Now as to my dumbass moment; I was evacuating the beer cooler from the house, carrying it to the car. I was almost at the bottom of the stairs when I decided I could take the final two steps while turning to the right to swing the cooler around. I failed to take into account the very high end to the banister. I learned very quickly as my ribs with my entire, not inconsequential, weight along with that of the cooler collided the post. I used some very colorful language to express my discomfort and looked around quickly to insure no granddaughters were within earshot to hear my declarations. My wife was just exited the door above me and asked what happened and I just shrugged it off saying it was a “flesh wound”. I woke up this morning with a very colorful gash and bruise on those ribs. You are very fortunate because I was doing some physical gyrations to try to take a selfie of the bruise but that was beyond my limited flexibility. You can thank me later.
