Frosty May

I know there are many of us in New England who were genuinely concerned about the Favorite Panamanian on Wednesday night. A late May frost warning was blaring from all the news channels and we all know how much she relishes cold weather. That would be, not at all. My immediate concern was evacuating the beginning of her usual spring flower hordes inside for the night. I’m lucky in that there’s only about half the usual population of flower pots it will eventually reach in a couple more weeks, still, not a small undertaking. I love what she does each year to liberally festoon the grounds around her vast garden complex and Deckzilla with colorful flowers. Of course, flowers and frost do not get along, so the evacuation was called for. I made an attempt to demonstrate some initiative by starting the evacuation without orders, usually a risky maneuver with the expert of all things.

Deckzilla's Flowers

Since this involved saving her beloved florae, I got away with it. Temperatures returned to almost May normal, although she’s sitting upstairs right now with the fireplace going. I mean temperatures in the 60s, how can we expect to tolerate that! Morale took a body blow today when we learned the FBR has been sick the last couple days so she’ll probably not make the trip north tomorrow for BR3’s birthday party. My daughter’s cat, Pee Wee, added to my daughter’s early morning sick call with the FBR today by throwing up all over their bed. Raining and pouring.

I always get excited about having all three granddaughters in the same place, just to see what strange and wonderful events take place when you combine their talents. We’ll still have fun but I’ll miss seeing my daughter and the FBR. I’m sure my son, ABFA, the BRS, BR3, and Great Aunt will rise to the occasion. Wow, talk about an all-star team! Speaking of all-star squads, I spoke with Keene Friend yesterday to check up on hometown events and lay the groundworks for a thunder run in a couple weeks. There it goes again, hope springing eternal.

Three movies fell in my A-Z watch, all keepers, completing my journey through the Dirty Harry universe, The Enforcer, great team with Tyne Daly; Sudden Impact, “go ahead, make my day”; and Dead Pool, early Jim Carrey and Liam Neeson roles, Patricia Clarkson a great foil and surprisingly hot.
