Opening Dud

Okay, so the Red Sox will not be going 162 and 0 this year. I had been reasonably excited about the debut of this year’s team after debacle that was 2022. Then, virtually the same type team rolled out on to the Fenway field. Terrible pitching that refused to attack the strike zone and a complete lack of timely hitting until it was too late. Still, hope springs eternal and I’m going to treat this as a one off with an expected bounce back over the coming weekend. What can I say? I’m a Red Sox fan. I do have one question, how the hell did Brasier and Ort make this team?! I know the game was played in semi-arctic conditions but the Baltimore starter didn’t seem to have a problem pounding the zone. Even with a 10-9 score, the game did move right along with the new rules, so there’s that.

My Favorite Panamanian returned in the middle of the game and had the temerity to require my assistance in carrying everything up from downstairs. The nerve! It wasn’t as if it was a game worth watching though. It’s been an interesting couple of days on my daily beach walks. There’s always strange fish washing ashore which I send pictures to my brother in law to identify (he’s kind of a big deal in Panamanian ecology). You can always tell where the corpse is from the gathering of the omnipresent vultures. Today I walked by a jelly fish (yecch) and a small manta ray that the vultures were feasting upon. I also chanced upon the remnants of what looked like a piece of a homemade raft. It had obviously been in the ocean a long time (barnacles galore). I immediately started concocting all kinds of theories of where it started from and what had happened out in the wide Pacific.

Our former president was finally indicted for at least one of his documented crimes. I know the right wing is rising in rage but c’mon. This Teflon dude has been dancing through the raindrops for decades without getting wet. It took the visibility of the presidency to expose just what a fraud he has always been. The law applies to everyone or it applies to no one. This paying off a porn star is really minor stuff though. Where is the indictment for his role in January 6? He incited a bona fide insurrection, despite what his congressional enablers say about it. How can any sane person still support this buffoon? The video from the attack on the capitol building still rends the soul when I see it. Even if the building is filled with idiots, they’re our idiots and we elected them. We’re supposed to be Americans before we’re republicans or democrats.
