Okay. A quick post as I’m navigating my birthday with my Favorite Panamanian supervising me and refusing to allow me to do any work. It’s taken a few years but she finally figured out how to cook scrambled eggs which was always a sticking point on past birthdays. We just got back from lunch at the Boynton in Worcester. I was a little crushed as I selected that restaurant last year because they served prime rib but that is no longer on the menu. I suffered through a glorious steak instead. A huge birthday cake is well hidden in the fridge, and I have been given strict instructions not to cheat and check it out before the arrival of the New Jersey bunch later today. My Favorite Panamanian spent two complete days creating it. I continued in my role as my wife’s personal, life sized, Ken doll as she gifted me with some new clothes. Thank God she’s on my side as I have no style sense whatsoever.
I remain particularly excited about tomorrow’s
pub crawl. This will be the first one in a long while that both of my kids will
attend along with Great Aunt. Now we get to the whole “Twin” comment in the title.
Today Great Aunt and I are the same age. Her birthday is tomorrow so it is appropriate
she is celebrating with us. It’s been my fate in life to have completely ruined
her first birthday party by arriving the day before. To her immense credit, she
has never held that against me. I’m incredibly proud of her as she’s demonstrated
so much courage over the past few years dealing with Soxfather’s untimely
departure. I still think about him every day so I can only imagine how tough it
is for his soulmate. She is something very special. Speaking of special,
Wingman exposed me to a new delicacy during my recent trip to New Jersy. They
now make Coca Cola Zero with the taste of Oreos! I know. Sounds weird. Trust me
though. Completely and utterly awesome. I’m going to sneak upstairs and try and
get a look at that cake. Wish me luck. Oh, and many, many thanks to the numerous
birthday wishes I’ve been receiving almost non-stop today. My heart is officially
touched.Birthday Lunch!
Five movies fell in the A-Z watch, all keepers: Mile 22, gritty CIA action flick, well done; Miller’s Crossing, absolutely love this Coen movie, awesome characters and screenplay; Minority Report, Spielberg and Cruise in Sci fi epic; Mission Impossible, impossibly young Cruise dangling almost as much as the plot, love the final scene; and Mission Impossible 2, kind of cheesy but anything with Thandi Newton in it will be worth the watch.
