My September will be my 2020 of year 2020, if that makes any sense. I have four scheduled delves into my body by various medical authorities. We started off yesterday with the easiest of the four – a crown for one of my back teeth. There is, of course, no fun to be had when one enters the lair of the dentist but this went about as well and painless as possible. I was treated to the smell of pulverized tooth for about forty minutes so the experience was not without its drawbacks. They’re going to rush the permanent crown so they can get it into place before I’m hors de combat later in the month with the more serious of corporeal intrusions.
Speaking of 2020 it wouldn’t be complete without a swarm of cicadas descending. I’d never seen these prehistoric insects until living in Virginia during one of their 17 year emergences. For those of you who haven’t experienced this aspect of southern living – count yourself lucky. They’re huge, love to land on your head, and make enough noise to wake the dead. It was therefore with not a little bit of irritation that I discovered one of the beasts sunning itself on my flagpole yesterday. This must be another sign of global warming because I’d never heard of them this far north. 2020.
2020 cannot contend with my talented children though. My daughter informed us last night that all the hard work (it approached legendary levels during the pandemic) she's put in over the years at her company have been recognized. Her director level boss is departing at the end of the year and my daughter will be assigned her responsibilities. She joins her brother who will also receive an end of year promotion at his job. This, again, validates the dedicated and professional work he's done since moving to the new company a few years ago. I cannot possibly be prouder of both of them, but I'll keep trying. I’m starting to get into a routine with my own new job, although I hesitate to call it that. My extended time in the Man Cave each day has relieved my Favorite Panamanian of her gravest concerns about my intrusion into her daily routines. I’m also continuing the house projects that always seemed to get put off when I was working full time. This week I sealed the end of the driveway. Yesterday I stripped and painted the bulkhead doors leading into the basement. It was kind of cool not worrying about work responsibilities or trying to shoehorn it in at the end of the day.
Bulkhead Painted ABFA Workout Partner
I get some more
practice this weekend as I take my screen replacement technique north to my Favorite
Son’s home. Spending time with him, the ABFA, as well as the BRS and BR3 will
go a long way in assuaging the incipient depression from our return from our
New Jersey stay. The BRS is assisting in the ABFA’s postpartum workout regime.
The ABFA and her parents took the BRS to the beach on Monday and while there
the BRS totally abandoned her usual stranger-danger stance. She decided to
become a serial hugger which had the ABFA sprinting across the sand multiple
times to preserve social distancing. Luckily, the ABFA, being such a great
athlete, was more than up to the task. In other New Hampshire news BR3 turned
over for the first time ever. She surprised herself and was a little concerned
about the results of her efforts.
Our Wakeup Caller
The FBR is also
assisting with our separation issues. She calls very morning, noon, and at dinner
time. She gets upset if we are awake when she calls in the morning as she hopes
to continue her stated critical mission task of waking up her grandparents. She
had a great surprise yesterday when Wingman arranged a play date with one of her
buddies. They had been socially distancing her for a couple weeks prior to our
visit to protect us so it had been nearly a month since she could hang with her
friends.
Still Miss the in Person Hugs
