The current pandemic is certainly not funny with its
life altering carpet bombing of the global society. At the same time there have
been some really comical memes and other injections of comedy into the new
situations we’re all faced with. The ability to laugh at ourselves even in
these darkest of times is part of what will pull us through it. That and social
distancing that is. While I have not been able to enjoy the full experience of
being restricted to home with young children I practice it vicariously daily
with calls to my son and daughter. I’m luckier than most being able to get out
each day to see the continued devolution of modern society.

This must have been so much more difficult back in
1918 with the world wide flu pandemic with no internet, obviously. I think
people were tougher and more disciplined back then because life in general was
so much harder. Still I think we’re up to this challenge and the idiots who don’t
want to ascribe to the appropriate measures are facing the inevitabilities of
Darwin’s precepts.
I thought I’d share some of the memes I’ve seen from
friends of Facebook because we all need to laugh. We’ll look back on this in a
few years and remember that it is times like these and our response that define
us. It will also appropriately invigorate our respect for teachers and most especially
health care workers. We got this.
