Vibrations

Had to Say Goodbye Yesterday
2017 arrived with a decisive thud which is understandable since I had to relinquish the company of the California Contingent yesterday. My wife and I are used to celebrating New Year’s Eve in style but neither of us felt like going out last night after a trip to and from New Jersey to drop off the luminous personalities that have blessed us for the past ten days. My wife is still dealing with the loss of her father which probably explains why she, usually the queen of New Year’s Eve, wasn’t up for anything.
First Friday
The past few days passed in a blur as we had to face the impending departures. The First Blog Reader did make a cameo appearance at First Friday where she occupied my lap with her usual room-commanding presence. The adults retired to the Man Cave so we could watch another movie together. The granddaughter has had a deleterious effect on my daughter’s ability to go out to the movies. Since she’s almost as big a movie geek as I am that is problematic. We tried to address that this week with several movies in the cave.
Checking Out the Snow on Friday
The big event of the week was Wingman setting up the sub-woofer that my Favorite Son gave me as a Christmas gift. I honestly didn’t know what I was missing until that divine instrument starting bellowing out sounds. I have it on reliable opinion the walls were shaking on the second floor, three floors above the Man Cave. It is AWESOME!!
The Drive Down
We made the drive down to Maplewood, New Jersey where the Californians will be staying with a fellow curbside gal and her family while my daughter works out of the home office this week. This will be a lot more convenient for Wingman than a hotel room, especially around nap times. I’m even more excited about the prospect of them contemplating a permanent move to Maplewood, something they’ll be exploring over the upcoming week; fingers are firmly crossed.

It was only a three hour drive from Worcester, even having to spend most of that in Connecticut.
Curbside Familes
It would be exceedingly cool to have them this relatively short distance away. Especially given the depressed state we’re now experiencing every time we walk by the many toys our granddaughter left to establish her Worcester cache.  The drive back we passed over the George Washington Bridge instead of using the Garden State Parkway and the Tappan Zee, big mistake. We abandoned the 95 corridor years ago for our migrations back to New England from DC and that decision was further validated yesterday; $15 to cross a bridge!
