Yesterday was an auspicious date in Great Aunt’s life. We rallied the family to send good wishes and congratulations around 6pm last night. Yesterday was her last shift working as a nurse as she is retiring and was scheduled to finish around 7pm. The messages flowed in only to learn she had been allowed to leave early, around 3:30, on her last day. It was the thought that counted. My sister’s co-workers staged a mini-going away party to appropriately send her on the way. During the family FaceTime First Friday celebration she admitted she was ready to retire. We both bemoaned the fact that a fitting retirement party would have to wait until at least this summer. The additional anticipation should compensate.
I’m
sure my mother is looking down with extreme pride as her eldest daughter finishes
an illustrious career in the same profession she pursued. I wrote earlier about
how finding your niche in life is different for everybody. Great Aunt didn’t
plan on a nursing career until a few years after college and went back to
school to obtain her second college degree in that area. In her typical understated
fashion she forged a truly remarkable career spending the bulk of her 35 years
plus as a ICU nurse caring for the most critically ill. She also assumed the
role as family medical adviser, always being there for us and demanding to cast
light on whatever I’ve been trying to hide over the years. I could not be
prouder of her than I am that she’s finally getting a chance to rest a little
bit.Great Aunt On her Last Shift
BR3 Potentate BRS Riding Some Exotic Creature
The ABFA and her family spent this weekend saying goodbye to her beloved grandmother. They joined the rest of her family for the wake and funeral back in her hometown. The BRS and BR3 accompanied them to add some joy to the somber justification for the gathering. BR3 decided she wasn’t going to let this further disruption of her sleep cycle pass without consequence. Her parents were only granted three hours of sleep on Friday night. During our FaceTime call with them last night BR3 sat like a ruling potentate with a very pleased look on her face.
FBR Calmer and Filtering Well, Not so Calm Drawing for Us
In
other granddaughter news, the FBR was out and about yesterday causing her usual
amount of havoc. We had a very funny moment, not that she saw the humor. On
very rare occasions the FBR acquiesces to the adults talking during our Facetime
calls. Yesterday we asked to speak with our daughter and the FBR immediately launched
into a sustained period of histrionics about relinquishing control of the iPad
to her mother. My daughter pointedly told her not to be so dramatic, to which
the FBR responded in the most theatrical fashion possible, “I’M NOT BEING DRAMATIC!!!”.
That situation was intensified when she heard both her parents and grandparents
laughing uncontrollably. Peace was restored to the galaxy when the FBR regained
control of the iPad and launched into a series of her moderately dramatic
background filters.Somehow Marking up Her Nose
