Christmas Card |
Faithful readers of Frail Deeds will
undoubtedly know the high esteem the Brew City wait staff is held in. I walked
in from a completely frigid parking lot yesterday afternoon to a very nice surprise.
Our usual waitress had baked brownies and fudge and prepared Christmas cards for
all the regular attendees. I told her I’m sorry she wasn’t around forty years
ago during my prime hunting era – I mean – a girl who can bake and delivers
beer! This once again proves my theory on generous tipping. It was very nice of
her and had the other Brew City patrons wondering what was so special about us.
The First Friday Suprise |
After First Friday my wife demanded to
be escorted out for dinner. In reality she was tired of her self-imposed
hibernation due to the cold. We first stopped by the local Wal-Mart to pick up
some photos we had printed. Venturing into a Wal-Mart on a Friday evening
during the height of Christmas shopping season is not for the faint of heart.
Luckily I had a bona fide shopping aficionado along to ease the pain.
My Daughter's Santa Reaction |
We perused the pictures during dinner and
as you’ve probably guessed they involved a certain young lady out in California.
While we have literally thousands of photos of her on our computers we didn’t
have any printed out. Anybody who has been inside our house will testify you
can’t walk through a room without being confronted by various family pictures; something
I love about our home.
She was a Happy Baby Though - Her Own Daughter Looks So Much Like Her |
The best picture, without a doubt,
though was the Christmas card we received from my daughter and Wingman
yesterday. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time and it wasn’t just the
beer effect of First Friday. The competing expressions on the faces of Santa
and the First Blog Reader were too funny. It also brought back memories of her mother
who treated her first Santa with exactly the same reaction. I’ve been hunting
all morning for the photo we had of that encounter but could only find one from
a couple years later which still shows the absolute disdain young female
members of my clan treat poor old St Nick with.
Front Yard This Morning |
We had planned on a trip to Keene
today so I could continue my exploration of the beer drinking art with the Keene
Friend while my wife followed her own devotion to tax free shopping. Unfortunately,
at least for the TJ Maxx and Keene Pub industries, Mother Nature intervened. We’re
in the process of getting four to six inches of snow which wouldn’t have stopped
the travel except that it’s supposed to be followed by a period of freezing
rain. I feel a little wimpish calling off the trip but any good New Englander
knows that freezing rain is not to be toyed with. Maybe I’m just getting old
and feeble.
