Maine Musquetera and Visiting Panamanians in Bar Harbor |
Well
the house is no longer quiet. The Panamanians returned last night from their
sojourn in Maine which, not unsurprisingly, involved some shopping. The Maine Musquetera
escorted them around northern Maine for two days and they visited Bar Harbor amongst
other sights. The cousin of the legendary laugh and her husband saw their first
ever deer in the wild and saw the beginnings of the annual leaf changing
colors. They were supposed to be back in the late afternoon but there was that
whole side shopping trip to consider.

The Amazing Deer Sighting - First Thing They Talked About |
Based
on their situation reports I knew I had some free time after work so I launched
on Phase 2 of the backyard hill project. The most onerous part was moving the
already excavated (substandard) dirt higher up the hill behind the planned second
wall. I then feathered in the more acceptable organic garden dirt for the first
level garden. It’s only been a couple weeks but I was startled by how fast dark
came on when compared to Phase 1. I was able to get the second wall started but
had to give up when I could no longer read the level bubbles. It was a good
start though. Further work will have to wait for a break in visitor hosting
activities, which is a lot more fun anyways. Case in point, we’re hosting a big
First Friday celebration this afternoon for them out on Deckzilla.
Phase 2 Starts |
I
was addressing my DVR backup in the Man Cave when I heard some indignant
Panamanian posturing at the top of the stairs. Apparently the Maine Expedition
arrived home and my Favorite Panamanian had been summoning me via the car horn
for several minutes with no response. Have I told you how much I love the Man
Cave! My failure to be waiting for her with breathless anticipation at the door
was forgiven when she saw the state of her hillside garden.

We
all sat down to watch some Red Sox versus Yankee baseball but that wasn’t very
entertaining as the Sox weren’t handling success very well. They were well
behind when we decided to watch a movie instead. Luckily I decided to check
back on the game after the movie and caught the final inning when the Sox
exploded for five runs with two outs to walk off against the hated Yanks with a
win. The back hurt a whole lot less after seeing this result.

The
Wingman finally re-appeared on Facebook to report two hugely successfully,
final shows in Japan over the past few days. He’s heading back stateside now
for the final two shows ever with his band this weekend in Chicago. I know he
misses his daughter and my daughter desperately but this must also be kind of
melancholy for him as he bids adieu to this phase of his life. Fortunately he
has those two, above mentioned young ladies to shepherd him into the next
phase; a very lucky man.
