Buddy Confronting his Nemesis |
Despite everything going on
at work I had the house fully vacuumed and bathrooms cleaned well ahead of
schedule. Buddy was dodging the fast
moving vacuum cleaner as it relentlessly hunted down his fur donations
throughout the house. I’m left to wonder
if he has been hosting another black dog (or a pack of them) when I leave him
alone in the house. There was that much
fur!
I did get to have lunch with
my favorite son yesterday, another highlight for the week. He and the MEF had their engagement pictures
taken by the same photographer who did my daughter’s wedding. The pictures were awesome and can be seen
linked to my Facebook page.
Lunch with This Guy Yesterday |
The only problem with a
clean house is that it has to stay that way.
Here I am, understanding where my wife comes from, difficult terrain, to
be sure. In an effort to reduce my
impact on the semi-pristine environment I decided to check out another movie
(sacrifices must be made). I made my way to the garage but when I opened the
door I realized I forgot the mother lode of dog fur Buddy has been storing in the
basement. I could have walked to the garage
without ever stepping on teh actual floor.
A full vacuum bag later I was on my way.
I went to see Don Jon which
was written and directed by the lead actor Joseph Gordon-Leavitt. 3rd Rock is so far is his distant past. This is a really talented guy.
He plays Jon, from the
outside one of those typical, loathsome New York Italians, my brother in law
calls them “Guidos”, who are used to lampoon the city. He’s heavily into himself and porn despite a remarkable
facility with women. That facility lands
him a relationship with seemingly the perfect gal, Scarlett Johansson.
The film traces his arc as
he discovers himself through a middle aged classmate in night school. I really liked the way Leavitt tells the story
in episodic fashion of Jon’s weekly routines without tangling things up by dealing
with what Jon does for a living except for a vague reference to the service
industry, that’s unimportant.
Johansson’s character is
revealed as extremely shallow as the skin deep value of beauty is explored. I’m not
sure how much acting went into that for her, but I digress. This is a smart movie despite all evidence to
the contrary as Jon eventually finds value in himself and abandons porn to
experience life. A very good, if occasionally
very graphic flick and the house stayed clean.
Playoff Beard Day 4 |
I love Channing's photos! The one of Katie on Travis' back is just great!
ReplyDeleteI also really liked Don Jon even though I wasn't sure about it when it started. But it became a really interesting commentary on illusions in the media whether it's how "sex sells" in every ad there is or how "romance sells" in rom-coms. I really liked the atypical ending, too. It was sweet and way more believable than those rom-com endings!
