Most Excellent Tree Top Dining

Yesterday saw the final day of the heat wave arrive with a promise of a cold front in the evening.  We finally got a chance to get up to Portsmouth, New Hampshire to give the newly minted MEF a long overdue hug.

After church and groceries I conducted a hasty lawn mowing while my wife concocted a chocolate pie, one of my son’s signature dishes.  We were supposed to be in Portsmouth at 3pm so when we left at 2:30 for the two hour ride the odds were that we were going to be late.

We woke my son up at 4pm knocking on his door and he looked a little incredulous we had gotten there so fast.  Apparently we might have fractured a speed limit or two.  Both my wife and I were so anxious to see our son and his Most Excellent Fiancé together.
Our Most Excellent Hosts up on the Rooftop
The plan was a barbecue on their roof top deck if the thunderstorms held off long enough.  They were both a little gassed after playing a hard fought flag football game that afternoon in the dense heat.  As usual though they rose to the occasion and were fantastic hosts.

It was so cool sitting up on the deck amidst the tree tops and watching life go by on the street far below.  The best part, by far, was the lively discussion of our new favorite topic – next year’s wedding.  It was so funny to see my engineer sun trying to get events on some sort of predictable schedule transferrable to a spreadsheet while the MEF was taking a more traditional, measured approach.  They are so perfect for each other.
The Son Grilling
The time sped by and soon we were watching the anticipated (and long sought) cold front advancing across the sky towards us.  We reluctantly abandoned our roof top perch after a fantastic barbecued dinner and finished our discussions in the kitchen.  My wife tortured me by eating a piece of cake and a peanut butter blossom right in front of me – both verboten to my keto requirements.

We sadly had to leave for home and made our way through several thunderstorms fearing the scene that would greet us if Buddy experienced these storms without us.  We had left the lights on and music blaring in his room.  He was fine when we arrived and I think most grateful that the music finally got turned off.

If that day wasn’t cool enough the Sox shut out the Yankees in a rain shortened affair – not a bad day.

Week 2 Keto weigh in – 3 more pounds off – two week total = 12 pounds
