An editorial comment here. We got back
to the condo on Sunday, February 23rd and learned the condo internet would be
down until Wednesday at the earliest as they are installing a new wi-fi system.
This means I can’t post this on Sunday as I am writing this and I’ll continue
to write and then post when the internet returns. I’m sorry, because this means
you’ll get an avalanche of news once Frail Deeds does return and you won’t be
able to ration your exposure to my blighted text. So, you’ve got that to look
forward (dread) to. I’m breaking up the posts into a couple parts. This third
will cover the time after the visit of my favorite daughter and the FBR and a
family wedding.

Brother in Law and his Bride |
As I was driving away from the airport
after saying goodbye there must have been excess dust in the air because my
eyes kept filling up. In time they got better. I only had a couple hours to
contemplate the wretched goodbyes because we had a big event to attend that
evening in David. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend were officially tying
the knot at their house in a small ceremony. My Favorite Panamanian had been literally
freaking out all day when the groom informed her that she was expected to make
a short speech as part of the ceremony. She treats public speaking as the worst
form of torture despite her demonstrated and relentless ability to talk
(sometimes to distraction).

Vows |
We arrived at the location and were escorted
to our table beside where the ceremony was to take place. It was a hot, oppressively
humid evening but our table was in a location afforded with the only breeze available.
The ceremony kicked off with my brother-in-law making his vows and his voice
caught a couple times with emotion. I figured out he was really happy about
what was going on. After the vows it was time for my Favorite Panamanian’s speech.
Instead of the nervousness she exhibited all day, she was a rock star. I kind
of expected that and she delivered.

Wife Making Speech |
The rest of the evening was serious fun.
My brother-in-law kept me supplied with surreptitious beers and he also saved
me when it came to meal time. The caterers were delivering the meals and I was resigned
to picking out the small portions of meat and chicken amongst the burgeoning
plate of typical Panamanian food which I would not eat. He showed up with a
plate laden with just beef and chicken and all was right with the world. My
wife just shook her head at our antics.

Dancing with his Mom |
 |
Wife's Family with the Happy Couple |
The dancing started right after the meal
and continued throughout the night. Needless to say, my wife and her sisters
were full time participants. The highlight of the evening was Tia Loca’s
dedicated dance partner. The five-year-old grandson of the bride latched on to
her and they danced the entire night. He had some serious moves, and we were
all a bit dazzled, a true character. We later learned that neither of his
parents dance and they don’t know where he acquired this facility. He seemed to
like me (for unknown reasons) and we devised an increasingly more complex handshake
every time he came off the dance floor. It was a fun night and great send off
for the newlyweds.
