There I was. Being all kinds of heartwarmingly
supportive of my Favorite Panamanian as I prepped for Mother’s Day. I
magnanimously promised I would cook whatever dish she wanted for her special
day. I mean it’s how I roll. Then she had the temerity to answer. She not only
answered my question but said she wanted fresh salmon. A certain blog writer’s
blood pressure immediately shot up for two reasons. One I have absolutely no
idea how to cook salmon. Second I’m not sure where I can find the damnable stuff
as most of the fresh fish counters in local grocery stores have closed. At any
rate, it’s good to have a mission again as I will set out at some point today
to acquire said aquatic creature. I’ve heard tell there’s information on the internet
about cooking also. This could get interesting.
I can tell we’re getting deep into the pandemic as
one of the movies I had scheduled to see when the movie theaters shut down
arrived via Blu Ray. This led to a date night in the Man Cave as my salmon
loving spouse deigned to descend into the cave to watch Bloodshot with me. Vin
Diesel playing, Vin Diesel, only this time he can’t be killed. Actually he was
and then resurrected by a garden variety mad scientist to take out the scientist’s
business rivals. I’m blissfully unaware of the mythology surrounding this character
so I entered without expectations, except for the requisite explosions and assassinations
which were delivered in full. Diesel wears the part well although he obviously
did no research on how Army special operators work and thankfully that was only
for a small part. The rest of the movie has him being shot, blown up and
variously dismembered only to have his resident nanites immediately rebuild
him. The movie bogs down in the middle but the action rescues it as well as the
presence of Eiza González who steals every scene she’s in. It almost felt like
we were back in a real movie theater with all the pleasure of a true popcorn
flick.
