Unification

We finally have an issue that bridges the ever widening political discourse as the ripples spreading from the Harvey Weinstein scandal approach tidal wave proportions. It seems like a new report of sexual harassment emerges each day as women feel empowered to finally tell their stories. What started in Hollywood has spread to the nation’s capital as the men in power there are finally being called upon to “walk the walk” after stories appear chronicling bad behavior from both ends of the political spectrum. I think this is great and incredibly overdue. Politicians and movie makers will not be allowed to pay “lip service” to the lofty principles they claim to hold.
I saw first hand in the military as I rose in rank that certain “types” thought they acquired better looks along with their promotion and could therefore take advantage of it by harassing. I never understood why a real man should need to engage in this type behavior. I was raised by a very strong woman who was serially harassed at a very young age. She instilled in me the absolute prohibition against ever striking a woman but also to respect them. That’s what the whole discussion boils down to. It is intrinsically disrespectful to use the power of any position to participate in unwanted conduct towards a woman. That woman who raised me had a favorite saying – “Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” We have to be better.

The Bad Cinema project count rises to #58 out of 100, with Top Line, which certainly was not.
