Quitclaim

A California Catfisher of Some Renown
As feverish packing occurs on both coasts yesterday turned out to one of those blah days that can consume moods voraciously. The West Coast packing exercise (a truly welcome occurrence, at least for certain grandparents) is in full swing with some alleged help by none other than the First Blog Reader herself.  I think Wingman and the Cali-daughter are doing most of the work though. One of my daughter’s best friends came over to help packing up half the kitchen. My granddaughter showed some real prowess with a cat fishing pole that led me to question how committed she is to the assisting with the packing.
Smile Still Shines
The East Coast packing is less friendly as my wife prepares for her annual winter migration south. Our bedroom has her usual packing frenzy results laid out which, when combined with the plants displaced from the first floor creates a formidable obstacle course, especially late at night when middle age comes calling. Deckzilla guy has been delayed at the Mafioso’s house so he hasn’t even started on our project yet. Each delay extends the completion probably into the arrival date of the California contingent. We’ll have to concoct a plan for mutual nap time and floor nailing. I’m getting sick of the desolate first floor awaiting its new covering.
The New Floor

Date night returned last night as we took in the movie Gold. If anyone has a burning desire to see an overweight Matthew McConaughey cavorting in his tidy whities then this is your movie as it’s his signature move for this flick. Those of us with more sane hopes have to be disappointed in this despite the lead’s attempts to lift it out of the doldrums. They tried to make the lead character out as some kind of visionary prospector but he comes across as more a second rate conman. Edgar Martinez, who is usually so good, sleep walks through this as McConaughey’s partner in crime. While the film boasts a truly stalwart supporting cast they can’t lift this muddled mess out of the quagmire. We all have to admit to ourselves that McConaughey is immersed in a career slump. Pass on this.
