First Friday and Sub-Continental Changes

My Excellent Boss' Head and the Rest of Brew City Last Night
After a week of political gamesmanship I was more than ready for the arrival of the First Friday of the Week which was appropriately marked with default celebrations first at Brew City and then Zorbas.  My excellent boss declared an early end of the day spent totally immersed in the scheduling software now that the politicos had finally made decisions.  I now have less than a week to get everything ready for delivery to the union.  The beer was welcomed properly last night as was the company of my favorite Panamanian.  We were just about finished with dinner when a group of Panamanian Mafia from Worcester walked in which extended the frivolity.  Last night was just what I needed after the week of emotive spinelessness.

Although it’s barely mentioned in the myopic US media (who are too focused on whatever the Kardashians’ latest setback to western civilization is) there was a historic and seismic shift in power in the Indian sub-continent.  The world’s largest democracy overwhelmingly voted out the Indian National Congress Party (Ghandi’s old party) and voted in a highly nationalistic government led by Narendra Modi.

Modi
Modi was actually denied a visa into the US a few years back because of alleged ties to a massacre of Muslims so I’m sure he feels all warm and fuzzy about us.  This bears watching because there are two very Muslim countries on either side of India, one of which is nuclear armed.  It’s also illustrative of the US media when an event with vast strategic consequences affecting more than a billion fellow humans is barely mentioned. Someone trying to crawl up an American actress’ dress at Cannes or a hero cat attacking a dog is deemed more newsworthy (alright the cat was pretty cool).
